Kathryn LeBlanc is the Captain of a luxury liner, sailing the Atlantic and visiting beautiful and historic destinations.  A single woman, she has devoted herself to the sea.  Kathryn can’t believe her ears at the beginning of her latest voyage when she hears the name of a passenger: Greg Durning.  Kathryn was once in love with a man by that name, but he broke her heart when he married someone else.  Could it be the man she’s never really gotten over?

Greg Durning is a widower with two small children, traveling overseas without them to take care of some personal business.  He is quite surprised to be invited to dine at the Captain’s table, even more so when he realizes that the Captain is the woman he was in love with several years ago.  When a storm threatens the ship, the liner detours to Casablanca, where Kathryn and Greg reconnect and begin to fall in love all over again.  The first time around, neither of them realized how the other felt, but now they’ve discovered their true feelings.

Kathryn has devoted herself to her career and thrives on her life on the sea.  Greg has children to consider and wants a wife and mother who will be there for her family.  Does Kathryn love Greg enough to sacrifice her career for him?  Even if she does, she can’t just back out of her contract before the term is up.  Does Greg love Kathryn enough to wait for her?

A CHANCE MEETING is a pleasant story, with very even-tempered characters and minimal conflict.  There are some lovely descriptions of places like Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Lisbon, including some historical background information.  It’s not very passionate or fast-paced and there is very little action or suspense.  But if you are looking for a sweet story about two people who reconnect and get a second chance at love, give it a try!
