Miranda “Randi” Cooke started life in a family full of firefighters. Like her grandfather, father, and all four brothers before her, she became one. Determined to pull her own weight, she charges into things with all systems on go until a tragic accident compounded her one mistake with lifelong consequences for her father. Unable to forgive herself, she leaves everyone behind to change professions in a new town as a state fire marshal investigator. Leaving everyone, including Zac Parker, behind without a second glance, Randi makes a new life. When duty brings her home years later, she finds herself investigating an arson case that points to her one-time flame.
Zac Parker watched Randi walk out of his life, but continued on with his career as a firefighter until an arson charge put him at odds with the Cooke family men. Though cleared of the charge, he walked away from the dark cloud hanging over his reputation for the life of a barkeep. When Randi shows up to investigate the torching of the controversial condo project next door, he realizes that his feelings for her are as hot as they were years before.
Sparks fly between Randi and Zac as they struggle to find the firebug and prove to their small world that it’s not Zac.
A FIREFIGHTER IN THE FAMILY has a superbly woven plot, beautifully written characters, and a realistically charged conflict that will leave the readers feeling as if they’re part of the small town dynamics with each page they turn. Ms. Milburn does an absolutely delightful job of misdirection that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. Well done, Ms. Milburn.
