When Mike Hill unexpectedly discovers Lucky living in the Victorian house, he is shocked and angered. But he is also aroused… Lucky isn’t quite what he remembers. She’s grown up and is incredibly beautiful. Though he doesn’t want to help her, his gentlemanly instincts kick in and he finds himself helping her get electricity at the house and helps her to a motel for the night, until the house is reheated. Soon, he can’t stay away. She draws him like a moth to the flame. He’s never felt this kind of attraction and desire for a woman before… but the town’s hate of everything related to Lucky and her mother, Red, a woman who hoodwinked Morris into marrying her, and then continually cheated on him, makes for a rocky beginning to a new relationship. Added to this is the fact that Lucky is still searching for her father and has contacted several prominent Dundee citizens, including Senator Garth Holbrook, who is making a bid for Congress and Lucky’s questions could not only ruin his campaign but also irrevocably hurt his family. What’s a girl to do when everything in her life seems incredibly unlucky?
A HOME OF HER OWN is the fourth installment of Brenda Novak’s Dundee, Idaho series. Mike Hill finally gets his own story, and wow, what a story. Ms. Novak cleverly weaves several different plots in this tale while keeping the emotional tension very high. The love between Mike and Lucky seems destined to fail, but yet, Ms. Novak manages to keep the denouement very believable and very romantic. She also sets up the next story in the series, due to be released in May 2005.
