A PRIOR ENGAGEMENT is the final story in Ms. Bliss’ series where Lee returns to pick up the pieces of his former life and learns to live again. Although I didn’t read the previous books, I was able to understand the basic backstory. Lee is trying to assimilate as well as figure Juliet out. He keeps thinking that he can settle into his former life but doesn’t quite realize that things will never be the same until it’s almost too late. He sees glimpses of the past and present clash and how everyone walks on eggshells around him. I really ached for him and Juliet when his memories and PTSD shows up and how he lashes out. I don’t blame him because it just makes him more human. Juliet has her own pain which caused her to make that fateful rejection sending Lee away all those years ago. It doesn’t make her a bad person but only more cautious and a bit sad around the edges. The secondary characters are so vital to the story and help humanize Juliet and Lee’s relationship. In the end, it took a leap of faith for them to move forward and a very unique situation and friends to help them see the light. Overall, A PRIOR ENGAGEMENT is a testament of faith to love and friendship and I’m glad I had a chance to read it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
