A Seaside Christmas
By Chris Mead
Oct 2, 2013 - 2:00:00 PM
Jenny Collins works as a song lyricist in the big city of Nashville, Tennessee. Needing a break from the daily grind, Jenny returns home to the Chesapeake Shores for the first time in years. Jenny has been estranged from her mother ever since she remarried and had another child. She is hoping to mend her relationship with her mother while she is visiting.
Caleb Green is Jenny’s ex-boyfriend. They split up because Caleb made the mistake of cheating on her. Caleb has been through rehab and is ready to turn over a new leaf. Needing to get his singing career back on track, Caleb wants to re-launch his profession with one of Jenny’s songs. Needing her permission, he tracks her down to the Chesapeake Shores.
As the two collaborate on the town’s Christmas play, they are starting to realize that they still have feelings for one another. With the help of some meddling relatives, Jenny and Caleb are thrown together. Will they get a second chance at love? Can Jenny ever learn to trust Caleb again?
Jenny comes across as a little childish at times. She does not interact well with her little brother who is only four years old. I found those character traits undesirable, but I felt like she did redeem herself when she later opens up and lets her guard down with her brother. I was happy to see Jenny learn to fit in and accept her new family.
Caleb has been the bad-boy-country-rock-star. Now all he wants to do is make amends for his past mistakes. I love the way Caleb interacts with the children in the story and all of his romantic gestures toward Jenny. I think that he does end up improving himself and atoning for his past mistakes.
