Heavenly angels Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy were each given an earthly assignment by God's main messenger, Gabriel-answering a human's prayer.  Before granting them, however, they must each teach their human a valuable lesson.  Can these mischievous angels fulfill their tasks before time is up?

Heavenly angel Shirley has been sent to earth to answer nine-year-old Timmy Potter's letter to God asking for a new father.  But before she can make his prayer come to fruition, she has to convince Jody, Timmy's mother, to let go of her dead husband's memory and start dating again.  Is Glen Richardson the man who can win Jody's heart and be the father Timmy longs for?

Goodness, a second angel, has been given the task of helping twenty-five-year-old Monica Fischer find the man of her dreams.  The daughter of a pastor, Monica is of the opinion that everyone should live and believe as she does, not realizing how self-righteous she sounds.  Goodness has the perfect mate for Monica in the choir director, Michael, but Monica has found herself falling in love with the totally unsuitable and ungodly Chet Costello.  Will Monica settle for the safe choice Michael, or will she learn to loosen up and give true love a chance with Chet?

Third heavenly angel Mercy also has an earthly assignment, which is to help restore hope to Leah Lundberg's life.  Leah, a maternity nurse who has helped to deliver countless babies, longs for a child of her very own.  Only Leah has forgotten how to love her husband, Andrew, turning their lovemaking instead into a calculated matter based on temperature charts in her desperation to get pregnant.  Can Mercy help bring hope back into Leah's life so her prayer for a baby can be granted?

Debbie Macomber's A SEASON OF ANGELS is a re-release from 1993, and hasn't really been changed or updated from the previous version.  Set during the holiday season, this sweet romance contains the stories of three women who are sent angels to help them move forward in their lives.  Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are well-meaning and eager to help humans, but are often mischievous due to the pull of earthly contraptions like church organs, forklifts and escalators.  At times humorous, sometimes sad, and inspiring, A SEASON OF ANGELS is a feel-good novel for a cold winter's night to read curled up by the fireplace while the snow flies outside.
