Chrissie Evans is well aware of the heartbreak of being married to a deployed military man. Her husband came home from Iraq in a flag draped coffin. She’s vowed that if she does get involved with a man again he won’t be enlisted in the military - but since she lives in Colorado Springs, near a military base, that limits her dating pool.
Captain Ray Hughes has returned from a tour in Iraq, but for him there’s no happy homecoming. His wife left him and rather than care for their son herself she left T.J. with his parents. Raising his son alone wasn’t part of his plans but it’s a challenge he accepts. He loves this little boy and raising him is a joy, but he is worried - who will he leave T.J. with if he’s deployed again?
Ray’s soon-to-be ex-wife Tammy had often left T.J. with her next door neighbor, Chrissie when she supposedly was attending courses at the community college. Privately Chrissie suspected that Tammy was cheating on her husband but she adores T.J. so she agreed. Unfortunately Tammy had mentioned her to her husband so when Ray comes home and he finally meets Chrissie he assumes that she had been instrumental in his wife’s cheating. He quickly learns differently and finds himself extremely attracted to her. There’s just a few little issues - he’s not divorced yet, and Chrissie doesn’t date military men. Can they overcome the obstacles standing between them to become a happy little family?
Cindi Meyers has officially won me over as a reader with this storyline! A SOLDIER COMES HOME focuses primarily on Chrissie, Ray, T.J. and Tammy but it also delves into their friends lives, their joys and heartaches. I adored Chrissie and her loving personality. Ray is used to commanding soldiers, raising a small child is extremely different and I loved that he refuses to accept defeat when things get tough. My sister and I were raised by a single military man so I have great respect for the men (and women) who find a way to make it work.
