Maggie Rainer once loved Kurt Rainer with everything she had; defying all her parents' rules to be with him every chance she got. After a fight with his father, Kurt was determined to leave and take Maggie with him. As much as Maggie loved him she couldn't possibly leave while her parents were in the hospital after a car accident. He left without a backwards glance, not knowing they had made a child together. She has yet to get over that after what they had shared he never called or at least wrote her. Now Kurt's picture has appeared in the newspaper and hints to the fact that he is possibly a murderer.

Kurt is exhausted and injured. He needs is to go home to recover from his wounds and figure out who is trying to harm him. He is heading for the safest place he knows, his grandmother's house. To his surprise his grandmother no longer lives there. Maggie has taken her place in his childhood home. She was the one and only woman he loved and he thought she loved him too, but evidently she didn't love him enough to leave her family behind or answer any of his calls or letters. Then he sees the pictures of a little boy and he does the calculations and there might be a chance he is a father.

Can Kurt earn enough of Maggie's trust to make a permanent commitment? Can Maggie get over her hurt and learn to trust Kurt again with her heart and, especially, with their child?

A SUITABLE FATHER is a terrific tale of true love. It started off with a bang and had me stuck to my seat. I was not able to put the book down because I had to find out what was going to happen next with Kurt and Maggie. Mrs. Crossley adds just the right touch of suspense and action without taking away from the romance. She has a great way with writing her characters' emotions that has your heart reaching out to them. This book has a place on my keeper shelf and I will definitely be looking for more of her work.
