Sabrena Collins has survived two disastrous marriages. She does have two lovely daughters, despite all she had to endure. Her life seems back on track with a career that is fulfilling and supports the three of them. Sabrena's friend, Rach, is like a sister and has been her pillar of strength through all the turmoil. Steve, the man in Sabrena's life seems all that her ex-husbands weren't, but she worries when his excuses for why he can't be with her sometimes don't add up.
A visit to the doctor for a yearly check-up reveals a diagnosis that causes Sabrena's well-planned life to spiral out of control. Is Steve more of a player than she ever thought or are there ghosts from her past showing up?
Sabrena is a strong intelligent woman, but has a weak spot for handsome men, as most of us do. As the plot unfolds we see what a good, loving mother and friend she is also. Steve seems to be just another charming man, at first. Eventually the readers sees through the author's vibrant descriptions and dialog that Steve is a man capable of deep love and compassion. Rach, Sabrena's friend, may have her own issues, but she is a wonderful example of unconditional love.
Although this book is marketed to African-Americans, the universal themes of love, friendship, hope and redemption will resonate with readers of all backgrounds. The author's medical background adds authentic information to this cautionary tale. I wish her luck in all she pursues. Her unique voice elevates this novel to something that will leave a lasting impression on the reader.
