An Acquired Taste

It’s been six months since Cynthia’s beloved husband was killed by a drunk driver. She misses him terribly but she’s also trying to go on with her life. Part of getting on with life is fixing up the cottage they’d shared - especially now that she’s discovered a leak in the ceiling.

A past experience with an unscrupulous contractor has taught her that they are not to be trusted. Her husband Tom had vowed to never trust a contractor again, but Tom’s gone now and she has work that needs to be done so her only option is to hire a contractor besides, she’s always wanted a sunroom she’s a smart business woman and she knows a thing or two about contracts and she’s devised one that would have most contractors turning tail and running. Fortunately she’s found the perfect contractor for the job and maybe for a whole lot more - Caleb Jenkins.

Caleb is confident that he can have Cynthia’s sunroom finished in three weeks time. The roof is no problem. It just needs a patch job. Cynthia is willing to hire him but he has to agree to the contract that she’s drawn up. Cynthia wants a schedule of when each stage of the project will be done. If he falls behind then he will be punished - physically. It’s obvious that Caleb is intrigued by this prospect but also apprehensive. He’s never encountered a situation like this, but he’s up for the challenge - he hopes!

Will Caleb be able to stay on schedule? What sort of punishment will he face if he fails? Cynthia knows exactly what she’s doing. Caleb is turned on by her appeal and the iron willed control she seems to have but doesn’t understand why - yet. This may turn out to be the most interesting three-week job that Caleb’s ever had the pleasure of acquiring.

While I don’t often read stories with female dominants, I found Jude Mason’s AN ACQUIRED TASTE to have a certain appeal that had me rereading it several times. I found it easy to empathize with Cynthia’s loss of her husband and admired her for being willing to go on without him. Caleb strikes me as a submissive who’s been living a ‘vanilla’ lifestyle without realizing his true nature. Cynthia brings his true desires out in a big way which will have readers anticipating each Friday when she compares the work that’s been done against his schedule and decides whether or not punishment is due.
