David Smith, aka Branson Smythe, is striving to finally make his father proud. He had failed in the marriage his father had thought was good for him, but even though he wanted to work it out with his cheating wife, she left him and married his best friend. His father has always been difficult to please and he has warned Branson this is his last chance to prove that he should be able to stay at Camden Corner Books. Adding a café to the bookstore is Branson’s brainchild and he is determined to make it work. He can’t go into the store as himself and expect honesty, so he comes up with the plan of posing as a musician and this way he can anonymously watch over his baby.
Branson is taken with JJ from the moment he meets her and is shocked to find out that she hates the café and musicians. He is determined to find out why she has such strong feelings and during the conversations he has with her finds himself falling in love with the young Christian woman who has had so much grief in her life. Branson is now caught in a vicious circle; he knows that he wants to spend the rest of his life with JJ, but she thinks he is a down-on-his-luck musician and he knows she will feel betrayed when she finds out who he really is. The only thing Branson can do is pray to the Lord and put the situation in His hands and let Him guide Branson onto the right path to win JJ’s love.
AN ACQUIRED TASTE by Susan K. Downs with Nancy Toback is part of the FRESH BREWED LOVE anthology featuring café’s, love and God’s influence. AN ACQUIRED TASTE is a beautiful and heart-wrenching story with a heroine that will bring tears to your eyes with the struggles she has had to endure. JJ and Branson both have problems, but with God’s love and understanding they work to overcome the bad times and find a wondrous life together. I really loved this book and was drawn into JJ and Branson’s life completely. I could not put the book down until I had reached the end and had witnessed their love conqueror all obstacles.
