Lucie Farrara is in the process of opening a restaurant with the help of her diabetic mother, who gave her the proceeds of Lucie’s father’s life insurance policy as well as her savings. So Lucie is determined to make a success of the restaurant. Between working and trying to prepare the restaurant for the opening, which is scheduled in March, Lucie has neither free time nor a social life. She was only at Times Square because her friends and her mother had encouraged her to attend, figuring she needed some time to just relax. But in the midst of the crowd, she became separated from her friends and had no idea where they were. However, she could never have guessed by attending the New Year Eve’s event, she would bump into a gorgeous guy.
Arren Fairchild had been married for five years before his wife divorced him. Although he had wanted children, he now considered it a blessing that they had been denied him since his marriage was over. He had lived in Seattle, but now had moved to New York to be with his sister, who was going through her own heartache. In fact, he was attending the dropping of the ball to get his sister’s mind off of her problems. But he had lost his sister in the crowd. While looking for her, he bumped into a beautiful woman and decided to follow the crowd, taking her into his arms and kissing her.
After talking for a few moments, they decided to have a glass of wine together in a nearby restaurant. Before they knew it, four hours had passed and Lucie only had a few hours before she had to be at work. Deciding that the evening’s celebration may have contributed for the rapport between them, they decided to wait seven days and if they still felt the same, they would meet at the top of the Empire State Building. But when the day arrived, Lucie started for the meeting place. However, fate intervened and the meeting did not take place. Since they had not exchanged phone numbers or email addresses, they had no way to contact each other. But Lucie, after offering a heartfelt prayer, decided if they were meant to be, they would meet again.
One year later, Lucie is now the chef at her acclaimed restaurant, Heavenly Delights, and Arren is a popular columnist for a major New York newspaper. However, they have never forgotten their auspicious meeting of a year ago, as Lucie’s prayer comes to the attention of Gabriel. As the newspaper’s food critic, Arren secretly uses the name Eaten Well. As the angels watch, Arren and his sister Josie arrive at Heavenly Delight with no idea it belongs to Lucie. Eager for everything to go well, each angel secretly contributes to the dishes that Arren ordered, making the meal inedible. When Arren gives Heavenly Delights a bad review, Lucie is angry and devastated. After three hundred of her customers gripe about the bad review, Arren returns to Heavenly Delights to give it a second chance and is pleasantly surprised, especially when he is reunited with Lucie. Although he praises the restaurant in his next review, Lucie complains to him about the jerk who gave her a bad review. With their tenuous relationship, he is afraid to let her know that he is that jerk. But what will happen when she finds out? Will it put an end to any future they might have together?
A heartwarming tale, ANGELS AT THE TABLE, the latest book in award winning author Debbie Macomber’s ANGELS series, is a witty, touching contemporary romance that will have you sighing and leave you with a smile on your face. The well-meaning, inept angels add a great deal of humor to this story as they try desperately to give their charges a happy ever after. Despite all of the jams they get into, you cannot help cheering them on. By combining the Christmas holidays, God, Gabriel, angels, a mission gone awry, romance, true love and second chances, Ms. Macomber has penned a delightful story that is sure to steal your heart. As a fan of Ms. Macomber’s work, I was eager to read this story and once more revisit the angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy. I am so glad I did as this story turned out to be everything I thought it would be. Although this is a wonderful story for the Christmas holiday, it is also a great read for anytime of the year. So do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. I highly recommend it!
