Lilah Young loves her life in Sunshine, Idaho, even if sometimes she is running on pure adrenaline and little sleep. Studying and running Sunshine’s only kennel keeps Lilah on her toes. So, when she accidentally rear-ends a truck, she just figures her day cannot get any worse. But hitting Brady Miller’s truck may turn out to be one of her most ingenious mistakes yet. Brady is just what Lilah needs in her life: a little no-strings attached love affair. For a woman who gives daily of herself, who loves all the animals that cross her kennel’s doors, will she be able to protect her heart from this wandering man?
Brady Miller never stays in one place for very long. As a pilot-for-hire, he goes where the jobs are and more often than not, they are in some very dangerous places. He has some roots in Sunshine however, in the form of two men who are the only people he considers family. When they ask him to stay for a month, he agrees, not realizing his heart will be tested in the process. Lilah is sweet, sassy, smart, and is turning his senses to mush. Brady has never considered any place home but perhaps Lilah is changing his mind.
ANIMAL MAGNETISM shines with Jill Shalvis’s amazing writing talents. Lilah is the heart and soul of this book, working hard to make homes for the animals in her care, only realizing too late how vulnerable all this leaving makes her. She has a sunny disposition however and it makes the story a pure pleasure to read. Add in the fabulous romance with Brady, a man who is at times a frustrated male and other times a lovelorn male, and well, the comedic potential is epic, as are the romantic entanglements. Sunshine has a great cast of secondary characters who help add layers to Lilah and Brady (coined Dr. Death by the town, read to find out why.) Jill Shalvis adroitly builds the intimacy between these characters through dialogue, displays of affection, sizzling love scenes, and a menagerie of animals. Yes, the animals play a wonderful role in this book, particularly a little guy named Twinkles. I immensely enjoyed visiting Sunshine so I cannot help but hope there are more stories in the works. ANIMAL MAGNETISM is a refreshing and exhilarating romance!
