ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? is the story of Francesca D’Arcy and Tony Galini. Ches and Tony have been best friends since the fourth grade and now, as they near the age of thirty, they become business partners. Tony comes from a very wealthy and privileged family and he has been enjoying his life, living off of his trust fund and seducing the ladies. But when his uncle, whom he deeply respects, approaches him with a business proposition he realizes that he wants that same respect that his uncle commands. However, he knows that he can’t make the resort a success alone so he turns to the same person that he has always turned to in his life, his best friend Francesca. Soon after, he begins having thoughts of christening every bed in the resort with the sexiest, smartest and most off limits woman, in the world . . . his best friend Francesca.
Francesca has had the hots for Tony ever since they were teenagers. But, she has always known that she is not the kind of woman that he is attracted to and under no circumstances is she willing to risk losing their very special friendship. Or at least not until the night that she realizes that the wonderful "dream" she is having is actually Tony, who is so tired that he went into her room instead of his. Even though they agree to forget about the incident, the stress of opening the inn and dealing with a VERY picky critic from a publication that can either make or break their inn gets the best of them. They agree to "just one night" to get rid of the sexual tension between them. But what if one night is not enough?
There are so many factors that make this a top pick for me. It is funny, it is sexy, it is sweet and it has strong secondary characters, two of which NEED their own story Ms. Etherington. But the main thing that stands out in my mind about this book is the interaction between Ches and Tony. As they fall in love they act just like I would expect best friends who are falling in love to act. They ignore it, they deny it, they fight it with every cell in their body but when they finally give in to it, it is the sweetest and most pure kind of romantic love possible.
