Deirdre wasn't happy with her sex life. Loving Paul was one thing, lusting for him these days was quite another. Her old ex-boyfriend was moving to town, Nick Rudy a.k.a. "Mr. Sex." What Deirdre really hated to admit was the choices she made. Great home, loving husband, children, secure job. But giving up on her dream all those years ago... now, she was second-guessing everything. Was she going to settle for what was comfortable to her or was she finally going to follow her heart and dream and see where it leads her?

Juliette wanted another baby but didn't want to have sex with her husband, Cooper. Just the thought of sex with him she tried to avoid. But her longing for another child over-road all of this. Was Cooper willing to have another child or was being able to spend more time with Juliette enough for him? Or was the real reason that Cooper didn’t want to have a baby, too much of a shock for their marriage to handle?

Anne was tired of being the breadwinner. She was proud to do this so that her husband could pursue his dream and become a successful filmmaker. She was head of the Operations Department at Baker and Little in Time Square. But when the agreed date to switch places arrived, was Damian willing to let go of his dream so that Anne could follow hers? Or does Anne back down, again, for one more "this could be the one" film? Will Anne make Damian keep up his end of the bargain?

Lisa was the planner, the ‘everything had to be just perfect’ person. The way her house looked, the way her children acted. She needed everything to run smoothly and if things didn't, she felt like it was her fault. She was even the type of person who didn't want to show any sign of weakness, even health-wise. Which was really difficult when she found out she was ill. What Lisa planned on doing was keeping her illness a secret. No one needed to know, and that included her husband, children and best friends. Was she able to keep this secret from everyone? Or did they find out that she was really sick and try to help to her?

Lisa, Juilette, Anne and Deirdre meet each month, for a girl’s night out dinner, where they share their hopes, dreams, bad days and good days. As you read their stories, each will tug at your heart and you’ll find yourself rooting for them to achieve exactly what they set out to do. Even if that means not changing one single thing.

BABES IN CAPTIVITY is a wonderful read and one that I highly recommend. Pamela Redmond Satran has a way of blending real life with her story, and she created a wonderful heartwarming tale. This is the first book that I’ve read that Pamela Redmond Satran has written, but it certainly will not be the last!
