Francesca Talbot is a neonatologist so she knows what to expect from being pregnant.  Francesca had a rough childhood; her father was abusive and she spent a lot of time in small dark closets.  When she was eight, she thought she’d try and protect her mother, but he lashed out at her, too.  So when she and her mother ran away, she was glad, but now Francesca finds it hard to trust anyone. 

Grady Fitzgerald used to be engaged until he caught his fiancé sleeping her way up the corporate ladder.  Now he just wants to run the family ranch and help raise his baby.  He finds Francesca desirable, but she has a career and he is afraid to get burned again.

When Francesca is diagnosed with gestational diabetes, Grady moves her onto the ranch to help take care of her and the baby.  Grady’s family descends on them to help and Francesca is touched to see how the caring family interacts.  It’s what she wants for their child, as she never had it for herself.  They have to learn to trust one another before they can move forward to the next step in their relationship.
