When Tessa Delacantro agrees to house-sit for her boss in his ten thousand square foot house, she is looking forward to an adventure: an adventure, which entails living like the rich and famous for a few days, not one that includes interrupting an armed robbery in progress.  She is thrown into a stark bare room, which holds only a fold up cot and an almost entirely naked man who is sex personified.  Who is this man who obviously shares the same genes as her boss?  No way does she believe his story about being an accountant. This man is way too alpha and intense to be something as mundane and ordinary as a number cruncher.

Ex CIA Agent Reilly Ledger can’t believe he let four amateur thugs get the best of him, strip him to his boxers and throw him in a cold utilitarian room with nothing but a bare cot.  He is preparing to wait until morning to try and escape when the thugs bring him a roommate who just happens to be the most innocent looking and, as he quickly discovers, talkative vixen he has ever laid his eyes on.  He tries to dismiss the combustible attraction between them as a result of their circumstances and assures himself that he will quickly forget about her after they escape.  He just might have bought his own story if she had not shown up at his office the following Monday morning as his new temporary worker.

I have always admired Jill Shalvis’s unique blend of sexy, humorous romance and BACK IN THE BEDROOM may just be my favorite book to date.  I almost felt a little sorry for Reilly, as he tries so hard to be tough and alpha. Between Tessa, his mother, and his father who is trying to become part of his life for the first time in his thirty-one years, he doesn’t stand a chance.  It’s obvious that Reilly desperately needs Tessa in his life and watching him fight that conclusion every step of the way brought more than a few chuckles.  The one-liners that Ms. Shalvis pens, along with the timing of them, puts her right at the top of my auto buy list and leaves me anxiously awaiting her next release.
