Zoey Hodge left Buckhorn, Kentucky seven years ago under a cloud of disdain following the death of her ex-boyfriend who wrapped his car around a tree. Now she’s back – unfortunately her arrival is anything but the subtle entrance she’d intended. An airsick toddler ensured that there was a certain aroma about her that is hard to miss. As luck would have it, instead of her friend Amber picking her up from the airport, it’s none other than her childhood crush Garrett.
Garrett Hudson is far more than your average hometown hottie. He’s a firefighter as well as a member of one of Buckhorn’s most prominent families. He has fond memories of Zoey’s free-spirited nature and zest for life and hated seeing her leave town. Quite honestly he was more than a little stunned by her unkempt, smelly appearance at the airport, but there’s no denying that he’s still attracted to her. Zoey might think she’s just back in town while her mother’s recovering, but her intentions to open a dog grooming business along with the fact that she’s bought a home tell Garrett that it’s entirely possible that he might be able to convince Zoey to make the move a permanent one.
I have fond memories of my first introduction to the Hudson family years ago when I picked up copy of SAWYER and eagerly followed it up with MORGAN, GABE, and JORDAN. All four titles have been republished a couple times over which just goes to show how timeless and beloved this particular series has become. With RETURN TO BUCKHORN, Lori Foster allows her readers to revisit Buckhorn, catch up with favorite characters, fall in love again with the entire town and this family, and in general remember a simpler slower way of life and the importance of compassion toward not just each other but animals as well.
Right from the beginning RETURN TO BUCKHORN made me smile because I was able to visualize Zoey’s horror at having Garrett see her in such an unsavory state – and loved that he did everything he could to put her at ease, even though I just knew the smell had to be getting to him. The story only gets better from there as Zoey deals with her mother’s recovery, the hatred some of the town members still have toward her, the raw giddiness of loving a man like Garrett, and the uncertainty of trying to help people who had wronged Zoey in the past. RETURN TO BUCKHORN is an enticingly sweet and at times hot romance that had me hunting up the previous titles and definitely looking forward to future BUCKHORN releases.
Watch for the next addition to the series, BUCKHORN EVER AFTER, to be released in January 2015.
