Clare's BEAUTY AND THE BILLIONAIRE has a ghostwriter who really doesn't like being a writer and a billionaire recluse who was scarred at a young age and doesn't do well around people. Put them together and the fireworks begin to fly almost immediately but neither knows what to do about it. Hunter, who is so not a people person, gets drawn out by Gretchen at every turn. He doesn't know what to think of her and her actions and they never seem to be at the same place at the same time. He gets hurt over and over again, as he has all his life, often by Gretchen since he doesn't know how to read her. Watching how compassionate and caring she was around Hunter most of the time was heartwarming especially when she tried to protect him or teach him things that he didn't know about sex. The interactions between Gretchen and her sisters Audrey and Daphne, who are twins, was explosive at times. The guests at the dinner party are not to be believed and the things coming out of some of their mouths is nothing but hurtful and I cringed as I read some of their words. There were family and friends, a huge mansion but we only got to see glimpses of some of the areas, tears, fear, aloofness, laughter, lots and lots of roses that played a meaningful part of the storyline, misunderstandings, hurt feelings, romance and love. There was a happily ever after in the offing and some closure but I would have liked more although it was fun to watch Hunter out of his comfort zone.
This is the second book in the BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB SERIES and I look forward to reading books three and four, THE WRONG BILLIONAIRE'S BED and ONCE UPON A BILLIONAIRE respectively. Book six, ONE NIGHT WITH A BILLIONAIRE isn't due out until June. I've already read books one and five in the series, STRANDED WITH A BILLIONAIRE and ROMANCING THE BILLIONAIRE. I look forward to reading all the books in this series as well as other books Clare's written. There was an excerpt of book three at the end of this story which only whet my appetite for more!
