McCarthy's BELIEVE, BOOK 3 in the TRUE BELIEVER SERIES was a little slow getting into but once the pace picked up it gripped me more than I expected. Phoenix and Robin had explosive chemistry from the beginning but neither knew what to do about it since they came from very different backgrounds and had experienced totally different things in life. They were good for each other - each wanting to be better and do more as a result of being together. They were better together than each one alone. Watching them grow stronger together but realize they could do it by themselves if they had to but didn't want to, was a nice touch. There were family - his dysfunctional and her's normal - along with friends, laughter, tears, fear, angst, lies, honesty, surprises, drinking, violence and anger, romance and love. There was nice closure and a happily ever after in the offing.
McCarthy is an author I've recently connected with again and she's back on my TBR pile. I'm looking forward to reading the first two books in this series, TRUE and SWEET since I've already read book 4, SHATTER. I also want to take a look at other books she's written that I've somehow missed along the way.
