Abby Barton is a television celebrity. She has a husband named Tom who is a school teacher and he takes her for granted. They have a teenage daughter named Jess. Jess hates Abby, and the only one who seems to understand Jess and her behavior is Tom. Then Tom and Abby split up.

Abby plans a trip to Florida for her daughter and herself, even though it seems odd to be going on a holiday without Tom. Before they leave, Abby is asked to do an interview with a journalist because it would be great publicity for the show. Abby is worried that the journalist will ask her questions about her happy family life, which is all a sham. No one knows that Tom left home weeks ago. When the journalist starts asking her questions about her family and upcoming trip with her daughter, which excludes Tom, the truth is almost revealed.

While they are on holiday, Jess asks Abby if her father knows that she would take him back and have things go back to the way they were before. What Jess doesn't know is that Abby has told Tom this and that Tom seems uninterested in them getting back together.

BEST OF FRIENDS, written by Cathy Kelly, is an excellent story that will teach you what the true meaning of friendship is all about and that you shouldn't take everything good in your life for granted because you just might lose it all. This book was a fantastic read.
