Desiree Prescott has the life she has always dreamed of; a great job in
New York, a nice apartment plus she is engaged to a man that values the same things she does.  All of that changes with a late night phone call from her Aunt.  Desiree learns that she has a half-brother and that he has just died and left three children behind.  Desiree doesn't have any idea what it takes to be a guardian or a parent, but she knows the only decision she can make is to take a leave of absence from her job and go care for her brother's children.

When Desiree arrives in Atlanta she finds herself instantly attracted to the man who has been helping keep the children, Gerard Kingsley.  Gerard is kind and patient with the children and is always there when Desiree needs advice.  Two things are keeping the two apart, one is that Desiree is still engaged and the second is that Gerard is a famous ball player and Desiree is afraid that he only sees her as a temporary fling.

Desiree has her hands full with all that is going on with the children, pressure from her boss to come back to work, the lack of empathy from her fiancé and the growing feelings Desiree finds herself feeling for Gerard and the last thing she needs to deal with is a deranged fan of Gerard’s that is starting to see Desiree as a threat.  Desiree must sort out her feelings for her fiancé and Gerard and make the decision for what is best for the children, but unless Desiree and Gerard can figure out who the crazed fan is, any decisions Desiree makes could end up being to late.

BITTERSWEET by Candice Poarch is an exciting, suspenseful and yes “sweet” romantic suspense.  Desiree is a wonderful and caring character and I was captured by her take charge personality and was moved by the way she always tried to do what was best for the children.  Gerard is also a compassionate and caring character and I enjoyed watching him work trying to convince Desiree to take a chance on him and I liked that he didn’t give up when obstacles where placed in his path.  This is a wonderful and heartwarming story and I recommend it to all that enjoy a well written love story with just a touch of suspense thrown in.
