Rowena Maven thinks that when she goes to Australia for a year that her trip will be filled with lot’s of fun and cute guys. But her trip begins as a disaster when she finds herself and her mom staying in a total bug motel. Things look up for her when she finds herself a very good looking boyfriend named Patrick Carroll who suddenly appears out of nowhere. The bad news is that this boyfriend always knows when to pull a disappearing act. In fact, Ro doubts at times that he is even real since she can hardly remember what he looks like.

Ro and her mom eventually move out of roach central and into a house that is owned by a guy on vacation. Now her mysterious new boyfriend is popping up at her new residence and Ro hasn’t a clue as to how he found her. When she goes to tell anyone of his name, she finds herself afflicted with non-stop stuttering as if his name is not to be told. Strange things happen when Ro is with Patrick. Like for instance, one minute she is at her house and the next she is on the beach with no clue as to how she got there. When her best friend Hallie asks to meet Patrick, things get more complicated and Ro finds herself not sure of exactly what she sees or why Patrick isn’t seen by anyone but her.

I found BOY DOWN UNDER by Sally Odgers to be a very great book to read. The mystery surrounding Ro’s boyfriend was well thought of and made the plot more exciting. Ro’s character experienced a lot of confusion and I did too at times as I found myself wondering if Patrick was real or not. I recommend this book to readers my age and up because it will keep you reading until the very end and it will not disappoint you.
