Hunter McFadden is the best sourdough wilderness guide in Alaska. When his current client, Mel Shepherd, turns out to be a woman he is at first appalled, then intrigued by the pain and vulnerability behind the beauty’s eyes. He swears to have her sharing his sleeping bag by the time the week is concluded.
A magnetic duo, Hunter and Melony immediately strike sparks off each other. A case of mistaken identity begins what turns out to be a coming together of two totally opposite individuals. Melony is a woman I was instantly drawn to with her need to succeed and her drive to outrun the past. She is a warm and loving woman who needs to feel like she is a worthy individual outside her career. Her emotionally crippling upbringing has made an impact on her life, casting this reader into a role as cheerleader. I went through a gamut of emotions as I read Melony’s story, sadness, anger, resentment and joy. She is a woman I would be proud to call “friend.” Hunter is a typical alpha-male hero with his view of women’s roles and their uses. His comeuppance is a beautiful thing to witness, as a slip of a woman has the power to bring this giant to his knees. Though he fights hard not to succumb to the emotional connection, it is inevitable he will fall for Melony. The storyline has plenty of emotional ups and downs, vividly drawn flora and fauna, and witty banter to keep readers engaged the entire story. Another winner from Kelly Wallace, BRAVING THE STORM is sure to fly off the shelves.
