Auclair's BRANDED kept my interest from the first page to the last. The chemistry between Jack and Cordy was immediate and scorching and Jack taught Cordy a thing or two about loving. They were intense when together but other times playful. I loved how Jack called her cher and let his Louisiana roots come through in a lot of his sayings. His friendship with other horse people and a movie star awed Cordy and she was accepted into the fold as a friend by all. Not knowing anything about horses myself did not deter me in the least. It was a quick and enjoyable read that flowed nicely. My emotions were engaged - there was both tears and laughter, along with sadness, secrets, hurt, work, horses, family and friends. Always in the background was the idea of Trent, Cordy's ex-fiance, and their relationship leading up to the wedding and then after. Cordy got her comeuppance more than once but never let it phase her since she never felt entitled to having someone human to love. The descriptions of the mountains, the resort, the homes and stables were vivid and made me feel that I was there. There were a lot of twists and turns to the story and not all were happy ones but there was the hoped for happily ever after that I didn't expect to see. The epilogue was the icing on the cake and gave closure and tied up loose ends.
Auclair is a new to me author and I look forward to reading the first two books in this series, THROWN and JUMPED. I didn't feel at a disadvantage not having read them yet and they both have horses at their core.
