Hank is known only as ‘the commander’ to the men of Task Force Zeta. As a leader he’s trained himself to keep his emotions carefully hidden. In reality, he’s a man with deep feelings and desires. At forty-six years of age, he’s starting to wonder if he’s getting too old to be part of the team, and if so then what should he do now?

One of the team members requests that the rest of the team stand up for him at his wedding. This propels the entire unit to descend on the Gordon farm in Pigeon Hollow. Hank will meet ‘Mama’ for the very first time. He’s heard all about her pies and is fully prepared for an older Betty Crocker type woman. He definitely isn’t expecting her to be absolutely gorgeous and so perfect for him.

Lois (a.k.a. Mama) has raised her boys alone since her divorce nearly twenty years ago. Now that they’re all grown up, she’s realizing that she’s lived her life for them and put her own needs aside. Hank’s arrival at the farm is all the inspiration she needs to realize that she’s still a beautiful woman who has every right to fall in love again.

If you’ve read the other stories involving these characters then you know just how perfect they are for each other. Hank seems to be hard and unyielding because that’s the way he’s trained himself to be during his years in the military but with Lois he’s softer and more personable. I loved reading about how these two characters get together.  I love THE COMMANDER’s story simply because Hank and Lois are more mature and seem to be at a point in their lives where they are ready to embrace love and the next stage in their lives.  Where many of the other stories in the RED, HOT & BLUE are passionate, fast paced and all consuming, THE COMMANDER seems to be more sedate and all-encompassing rather than focused on just the main characters.

I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed every single book in the RED, HOT AND BLUE series.  I adored getting to meet all the characters, loved the military theme and the genuine camaraderie between the members of the Task Force Zeta team.  Ms. Johnson depicts men in the military in a favorable light – and as the daughter of a military veteran myself I can wholeheartedly appreciate her insight.
