Cade Maxwell is a senior in college aspiring to be a chef. He has the responsibility of helping his sister and her daughter. Cade has been responsible for his sister since he was sixteen after their mother dies from cancer. He wants to get a good job after graduation so he can eventually own a restaurant. He feels he has to stay local to take care of his family.
Cade goes to The Brewery to hook up with some friends and sees Winter for the first time. When Cade tries to help Winter when a patron gets too hands-on, Winter goes ballistic on him and tells him to back off, that she can take care of herself. When Cade leaves her a tip to make up for the one he made her lose, she gets even more furious. This leads to her trying to locate him on campus to give him an earful.
Cade is a responsible person who doesn't like to see people being treated badly. Winter is not a person to open up to anyone because it has always led to heartbreak. As Cade and Winter try to get to know each other, it leads to a lot of disagreements. As their feelings get deeper, Winter is more nervous because she likes having someone to talk to and hold onto once in a while.
This story is loaded with tension, romance and trying to find the trust needed to have a good relationship. I got caught up in all the drama and the back and forth bickering between these two characters. Winter and her independence is very interesting to watch as she comes to grips with her real feelings. Cade is always trying to take care of the people he cares about which leads to problems in the relationship with Winter.
I think this is a superb story written in first person so you know what the characters thoughts are through the whole book. I give this book 4 Blue Ribbons at Romance Junkies' website because getting to know the inner thoughts of the characters leads to a better understanding of all of their life struggles.
