Alys Seagraves and her lovable but eccentric friend Mame could not have been more excited. The have been planning this road trip along historic route 66 for months now, but just days before they were to leave Mame suffered a mild heart attack. Concerned for her friend, Alys put the plans for their road trip on hold, but the only concern Mame seemed to have was that her nephew Elliot was on his way to the hospital.

Elliot Ross loved his aunt Mame dearly. She had raised Elliot and his two brothers since their parents were killed. Elliot's father had suffered a heart attack while driving causing an accident that killed both Elliot's parents. Elliot was now a famous radio talk show host known as 'Doc Nice' and was a complete health nut. He was positive he was destined to suffer the same fate as his father, but determined to do everything he could to prevent it.

Alys is a lost soul who is determined to find a place in the world were she would never have to care about anyone again. Losing both her parents and then later, her husband to cancer, Alys made a vow that she would never let anyone get that close to her again. Fortunately for Alys, Mame has a plan of her own that is going to take Alys and Elliot on the ride of their lives.

When Mame escapes from the hospital room and steals Elliot's car he is determined to bring her back. The only other person who knows the route Mame is driving is Alys and she is just as determined that Elliot let Mame relive the memories she so desperately wants. Driving Mame's pink Cadillac, Elliot and Alys embark on a journey along the old route 66 looking for Mame. What they find is a passion for life and a love for each other if only they are willing to take the chance.

CALIFORNIA GIRL is a romance that I will remember for a long time. The fast paced story line and characters that you can't help but fall in love with make CALIFORNIA GIRL a must read for all romance fans. Patricia Rice has done an awesome job and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.
