Victoria Schulman sees the chance for a new life for herself and her young son, Jacob, on her recently deceased father’s ranch. While she does not know anything about running a ranch, she wants an honest life, honest work and is willing to put in the hard work to learn how to run the ranch. Unfortunately, Eli Turnbull, longtime cowboy at the Crooked Creek ranch, does not want Victoria to succeed. He is willing to buy the land from her, to get it back into his family where it rightly belongs. But Victoria is stubborn and will not sell. These two are in a battle of wills where the ugliness of their pasts will shape their future.

I do not want to give too much away in this book because this is truly a story about second chances and far be it for me to ruin it for you. Eli and Victoria are both carrying some very heavy baggage in their lives. That baggage is the cause of a lot of anger, regret, and hardship but also, it fuels the passion and drive of the characters. Victoria has long been taken care of by a man and she finally has the chance to be in charge, to make her own destiny and she is grasping it with both hands. I was not sure if I would warm up to Victoria because in the first book in the series, CAN’T BUY ME LOVE, she is not the most strong-willed of female characters but I must give author Molly O’Keefe a lot of credit for getting Victoria into a positive direction in her life.

Eli has a lot of anger and regret in his life and it is definitely hard for him to let that go. But the more he gets to know Victoria, the more he craves something besides long held family wishes. He wants something else for himself and like Victoria; Eli begins to carve out his own destiny. There are painful moments in store for these two but it helps to pave the way for a stronger relationship.

CAN’T HURRY LOVE is a very engrossing romance in every respect! The secondary characters add plenty of nuances to the story and there is a beautifully written secondary romance that plays out on the pages of this book, echoing the title of the story. Love truly arrives when you least expect it. It is not totally necessary to have read the first book in the series but I think readers will get a fuller appreciation for both Victoria and Eli if they are familiar with CAN’T BUY ME LOVE. Molly O’Keefe is making quite the name for herself in contemporary romance! I know I’m already sold on whatever book she has coming out next.
