Jake has not held a steady job in quite a while, but after finding that Dani’s school will cost her five thousand dollars this year, she knows that her freelance artist status has to come to an end. When she is late for her appointment at Ebony Man publishing company, “The Three Kings” mistake her for an author that is to be photographed and try to strip her when she arrives. Jake stops them and lets them know she has an appointment with Mr. Fitzgerald.

Eamon Fitzgerald makes himself known, then takes her to his office to interview her, although expressing ‘with a name like Jake, I thought you were a man”. Jacqueline “Jake” Bouvier Troubat McKenna is part French, part African American, with unruly auburn hair and is all woman. Jake has had plenty of “jobs” but no office experience. Eamon Fitzgerald hires Jake on-the-spot and eases Jake’s mind by letting her know there is a day care service available free to employees.

Eamon Fitzgerald is your classic Tall, Dark, and Handsome man with bronze colored skin, and ice blue eyes, but he seems to be a cold fish. Yes, ladies, the eyes are the soul to the world. Eamon Fitzgerald is a lawyer by trade but has inherited the magazine from his Uncle Eamon. Jim Fitzgerald, his brother, is the classic “love them and leave them” playboy. Eamon hired Jake before Jim could come and disapprove. When Jim meets Jake, he very much approves. They are way too friendly for Eamon’s taste.

Jake thinks that Eamon is sexy, and would be a good catch for her best friend, Liza. Eamon seems to be too stuffy for Jake.  Plans do not always work out the way you want them to.

COULD THIS BE MAGIC? is one of the best romances that I have read in a long time. Eamon Fitzgerald and Jake McKenna are very strong, professional, believable characters. I loved that they did not take each other for granted, but that they respected each other with the problems they encountered.

COULD THIS BE MAGIC? had me crying in some spots, laughing in others, and aroused quite often. COULD THIS BE MAGIC? by Deirdre Savoy is a romance novel that is not to be missed. I look forward to reading and reviewing Ms. Savoy’s next novels.
