After catching his wife in the arms of another man, Steven doesn't trust anyone except his best friend Kendra. Friends since childhood, she’s got his back, helping him pick up the pieces of his life and learn to love again. But when his thoughts of friendship turn to romance, he is at a loss as to how to proceed.

Kendra knows letting Steven stay with her for a little while is a bad idea before she opens her mouth and agrees to it, but he's her best friend. She suddenly finds herself attracted to him, wanting more than the friendship they've always shared. After a steamy accidental kiss, everything is thrown into a tailspin.

I was riveted from the opening scene of this wonderful read. Steven’s wife’s betrayal sets an attention-grabbing mood for this story. Steven has always had two women in his life, his wife Shanna and his best friend Kendra. And when his life with his wife crumbles, he turns to his life-long friend.

Ms. Wayne pushes up into an overwhelming wealth of emotions when the ultimate treachery occurs. I like the way Ms. Wayne delves into Steven and Kendra’s past to give the reader an understanding of why each of them is so reluctant to give in and take their relationship to another level.

I like the portrayal of Kendra as she faced an unpalatable choice of giving into what she wanted and losing the best friend she’d relied on all her life, or fighting a brewing attraction. Steven’s internal battle was well depicted as well. Both of these characters are flawed in a way that most readers will relate to and understand, especially given the circumstances each of them is facing.

CROSSING THE LINE is the first book of Ms. Wayne’s that I have read but it won’t be my last. I love Ms. Wayne’s writing style. If you aren’t already familiar with her work, I highly recommend this as an introduction. You won’t be disappointed!
