OR nurse Elizabeth Winters is tired of feeling left out in the cold about sex. At the age of forty-one with a marriage that spanned over twenty years you’d think sex would have rated as one of the top pleasures in life but instead it’s never been particularly enjoyable and her ex is still doing his level best to make her feel inferior. It’s time for Ms. Winters to unsheathe her claws and do a little prowling for a younger man, isn’t that what the Cougar Challenge is all about?
At the age of thirty engineer Kevin Springer has had more than enough drama queens in his life thanks to his gig as a bass guitar player in a local band and his step-mother. What he wants is a down to earth woman who isn’t going to make demands on him and get all weepy and whiny when things don’t go her way. Meeting ‘Elle’ is a sure stroke of being at the right place at the right time. She not only saves him from his own personal stalker but actually agrees to a date.
As if Elizabeth wasn’t nervous enough about her date with Kevin a phone call from her ex-husband and his hateful comments make her doubt her own sensuality. Fortunately after venting to the Tempt the Cougar blog, Elizabeth gives herself a pep talk and decides that her ex’s opinion isn’t worth worrying about and it’s time she put all her research into finding out what’s so great about sex and putting it to good use. She’s not looking for a happily-ever-after – just wildly hot sex with no-strings attached. What neither of them anticipate is Kevin’s change of heart because he’s suddenly decided he actually wants a real relationship complete with the happily-ever-after.
I have to confess, I really love the COUGAR CHALLENGE series. Not necessarily because the sex is hot, it is, but that’s not my reasoning for finding these books so enchanting. It’s the simple fact that the heroines are older women who know what they want and make no apologies for being themselves – in and out of the bedroom. In Dalton Diaz’s WINTER’S THAW Elizabeth proves to be a loveable character who spent a good portion of her life with a man who didn’t deserve her – now it’s time to explore her own desires and find what makes her happy. Kevin is eleven years her junior but he’s absolutely perfect for her. He’s fun, adventurous and couldn’t care less about their age difference. Ms. Diaz makes becoming a cougar sound oh so appealing that I think if I wasn’t already married I might give it a try.
