s cousin Eddie Sassenbury, a private investigator, needs someone to help him with a very special case and he needs someone who can start immediately. Knowing his cousin is in need of financial assistance, he asks Tori to come work for him. Tori accepts his offer and figures she'll be working in the office as a secretary. But that's not how Eddie sees it.
It seems that a Mrs. M. would like to find out as much as possible about Grady Palmer, the owner of a local construction company. Is he a decent and honest man? There are rumors that he is not on the up and up when it comes to his dealings with City Hall and Mrs. M wants to know the truth. She's paid Eddie a substantial amount of money to follow this guy to find out those answers and he doesn't intent to let her down-well, he doesn't intend for Tori to let her down. This is now Tori's case and she'll be the one to follow him and report back to Mrs. M. about his character.
Thinking that investigative work is a piece of cake, Tori soon finds out that it's anything but and the mistake she makes just might ruin the case. She didn't realize she was much too close while she was following Grady. Apparently, he did, though, and as soon as he understood what was happening, he quickly pulled over and confronted Tori. How could he possibly be upset with this beautiful woman who was tailing him?
The story that Tori has ready for him is just magnificent. Her plan to lead him on in another way is priceless. And much to Tori's surprise, leading him is exactly what she intends to do. But, there is something that bothers her. What will happen when Grady finds out the truth?
Another wonderful story that weaves its way through this highly comedic novel is that of Grady'
s sister and her plight to try and prove that she's no longer a child, that she's a mature and grown woman.
SNOOPS IN THE CITY was one of the funniest novels I've read in quite some time. Darlene Gardner has such a great sense of humor and it came through with shining colors. The fun of Tori discovering how to be a private investigator is priceless; I couldn't help but laugh aloud. The interactions between the characters blended together perfectly and formed one well-rounded romance novel. My hat's off to you, Ms. Gardner.
