Needing purpose in her life, Ashton wants to be respected because she is doing something worthwhile and she wants to make Shelbyville her home. Gigi's project would accomplish this for her, so she convinces her grandmother to let her run the job. When her contractor dies, she needs another one fast and she knows just the person for the job.
Blaming himself for his father's death, Mac McLaughlin's life was turned upside down when his grief led him to booze and he ended up running his business into the ground. He is now in Shelbyville, using his carpentry skills to build his mother a shop. But he needs to remain in Shelbyville, where he is working construction, for one reason, to make enough money to get back to Dallas. However, he can't return until he makes enough to pay off the subcontractors he left hanging after his construction company went under. He agrees to stay in Shelbyville and help Ashton through the first phase of Lily Lake. After all, working on this new project may be just the ticket to start rebuilding his career and regaining the life he once had. As for Ashton, Mac has wanted her since the first time he saw her, but he doesn't need that kind of trouble. He sees her as a spoiled, rich girl and that is the last thing he wants to get involved with. In the past, Mac dated a few high maintenance types, but Ashton is out of his range. Still he can't stop himself from watching her and thinking about her.
Just as Ashton and Mac get started, an ecologist discovers a rare species at the construction site, putting the folks of Shelbyville into an uproar as they see an environmental disaster about to take place, and work is brought to a halt. If Ashton doesn't bring this stage of construction in on time, not only will she not get her bonus, but Gigi won't give her the money to start the new phase of the project. However, Mac cannot afford to stick around Shelbyville, especially with his feelings for Ashton and her precocious dog complicating matters. Can Ashton convince him to stay, not only for the job, but because they belong together?
The fourth and final book in author Kelsey Browning's TEXAS NIGHTS series, DESIGNED FOR LOVE is a fun, seductive contemporary romance that will leave readers chuckling. Believing that Ashton is a spoiled rich girl, Mac's attitude toward her is harsh and disdainful, and she is bewildered by his actions, but neither can deny the sparks that fly between them. As Ashton deals with the glitches in their project, working hard to bring the project in on time, Mac begins to see the real Ashton, but he needs to go back to Houston. Adding even more charm and depth to this story is Ashton's feisty, take-charge grandmother, who shows some faith in her granddaughter, even while others are turning their backs on her.
Filled with family, starting over, trust, acceptance, small town dynamics, rare plants, protestors, sensuality and love, this book will quickly captivate readers. Although DESIGNED FOR LOVE includes appearances by the characters from the previous books in this series, it can be read as a standalone. This is the first book in this series that I have read, but I enjoyed it so much that I plan to remedy that situation. This delicious, Texas romance is one you won't want to miss!
