DESIRE AFTER DARK (GANSETT ISLAND #15) takes us to a cold and wintry Gansett Island where the wind blows through you any time you're outdoors! There are numerous McCarthy's along with their extended family and friends, and they show us what it means to be family. This time it's Slim and Erin's story along with several others, and though Slim and Erin aren't McCarthy's, there are oh-so-many sprinkled throughout.

Written by one of my favorite authors, Marie Force's DESIRE AFTER DARK continues the GANSETT ISLAND series. I not only caught up with all the McCarthy's, their significant others and friends, but celebrated with them as they wed, made babies, had parties or celebrated the holidays. The history of the family is woven throughout the story, which is great because somehow I missed a lot of books in this series. I found out I've only read the first two books, MAID FOR LOVE and FOOL FOR LOVE, so all the stories in between will now get added to my TBR pile. I can't wait to read them all!

As the family continues to grow, so too do some of the other families on the island. It was nice to see all the interactions and the family connections. There were many stories being told concurrently. Slim, a good friend of the McCarthy family, and Erin, new to the island and the lighthouse keeper, have immediate chemistry when they meet, and we get fully immersed in their lives and loving. Slim is nothing if not patient since Erin has a lot of baggage weighing her down. She still is not totally over the death of her twin brother, Toby, who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, and it affects every area of her life. Watching Erin overwhelmed by anxiety and hurt was painful. But seeing what a great support system she has, as well as watching her overcome some of her fears with the help of Slim and her parents, was heartwarming and a huge step forward for her. She and Slim are good for each other. Both are in their late thirties and thought they knew what they wanted out of life, but do they?

Force fills her stories with family, love and laughter, sadness and secrets uncovered. She vividly describes the scenery, as well as some burning-up-the-sheets moments that add so much to the story. Erin's happily ever after came about despite her fears, and there's a wonderful loving journey for Evan and Grace as well. The epilogue gives nice closure, tying up loose ends, though I know there are more stories to tell on Gansett Island. I look forward to reading all the books in this series. Marie Force is definitely a go-to author for a wonderful romance. I love all her books!
