Cassandra Riley is turning thirty and she is going to enjoy every moment of it…even if her mom seems unable to return from her travels to help her celebrate. Instead, Cassandra will make the most of her day with her two newly discovered sisters, Juliet and Nikki, and maybe, her landlord and sort-of-friend, Gabe Kincaid. Cassandra is determined to save Gabe from himself, even if he claims he does not need saving. Cassandra, fondly referred to as “Froot Loop” by Gabe, believes otherwise, especially when she constantly has to rescue him from various drinking and bar binges.

Gabe knows Cassandra is too good for him. Ever since he lost his wife and young daughter, Gabe has not been good for anyone in his life. He cannot get over the guilt he feels at their deaths and part of him does not think he deserves to. On top of that, Gabe is incredibly attracted to Cassandra. But he does not want to lose the one good relationship he has in his life. When a night of drinking leads to a night in his bed, he freaks out. What has he done and has he risked their friendship forever?

Cassandra and Gabe have a complex relationship. Cassandra acts like Gabe’s protector and friend through much of the story, even as she is trying to distance herself from him. She recognizes she is starting to fall in love with Gabe, and well, he is definitely not in a place to reciprocate her feelings. But like many men, when something they long for starts to get away from them, they react. And Gabe reacts in a big way. I liked how Gabe started to realize Cassandra needed a champion in her life and he stepped up to the role, even as his heart was not prepared for what she is making him feel.

Gabe is carrying a lot of guilt on his shoulders and that stress becomes part of the romance in many ways as Cassandra tries to draw it off of him. I liked seeing Gabe turn from curmudgeon into romantic.

DIRTY SEXY KNITTING has a great focus on the importance of finding family, a family that matters to you, not necessarily one related to you by blood. I enjoyed Cassandra’s interactions with her sisters and future brothers-in-law.

Christie Ridgway gives her knitting series a satisfying and romantic ending. Gabe and Cassandra, for all their drama and hurts between them, end up finding a powerful love.
