With the youngest child’s departure for college Faith Wainwright is experiencing empty-nest syndrome with a vengeance.  In an attempt to focus on what to do now she ventures back to her hometown hoping that her mother might share some insight on the whole situation.  Faith loves her husband but feels that over the past twenty five years they’ve become distant – and the lovemaking has definitely taken a backseat to raising the kids.

Troy’s as devoted to his wife now as he was on the day they married almost twenty-five years ago.  Their lovemaking may have dwindled to quickies before the kids got up and romance took a back seat to daily responsibilities, but his love has never wavered.  He’s not completely oblivious to Faith’s emotional upset over the kids leaving home and but he hopes his planned surprise will lift her spirits and give him the opportunity to DO OVER many of the events from the past he wished had been different.

Faith is in the middle of visiting with her mom and expressing her opinion that Troy’s a ‘manly man’ so he doesn’t feel the kids’ absence as intensely as she does when she hears a knock on the door and opens it to find Troy with a duffle bag full of stuff he tells her to change into within the next fifteen minutes and there are to be no questions.  When Faith opens the duffle bag she finds clothing like what she might have worn in high school and Troy’s old letterman jacket.  She’ll soon discover that Troy is about to treat her to revisiting each and every one of the special spots they’d shared together in their hometown – and he’s even documented his feelings about them and her in a special album.

Mari Carr’s DO OVER is one of the sweetest and hottest married couple romances I’ve ever read.  Faith and Troy’s marriage is obviously on very stable footing but needs a little pick me up and Troy comes through with flying colors.  As they embark on a series of do overs and remembered moments Faith and Troy share not just the past but their hopes for the future, fears, and even sexual adventures that they’d like to experience.  At times I could feel myself tearing up with Faith over Troy’s thoughtfulness with the album, letters and the care he takes in making sure every DO OVER is perfect.  Mari Carr tells a bittersweet tale with DO OVER that leaves readers feeling that having the kids move away for college could actually restore the spark in a marriage that’s gone stagnant.
