Navy SEAL Matt O’Connor’s never had any problems in the dating department – until now. While on leave he had the misfortune of being in a bank during a robbery trading jibes with a sexy blonde lying on the floor near him. There’s no denying she’s an extremely attractive woman, but she shot down his offer for a date – and he couldn’t even induce her into accepting his offer for a little comfort sex. He’s seriously slipping – especially considering she got away from him by pointing at the sky and saying “I think the bat-signal’s calling you” … and he actually looked!
Savannah Harte doesn’t do commitments. She’s a proud businesswoman running her own flower shop and that’s plenty of commitment for her. What she does do is hot sex with one partner at a time. Dating more than one man is well… tacky. Unfortunately at the time of the bank robbery she was already seeing a surfer she’d met the week before so that meant that no matter how sexy Matt is, the answer is still ‘no.’
What neither Matt nor Savannah anticipates is divine intervention in the form of his friend Annabelle Holmes, whose search for a florist to provide flowers for Prestige Events clients’ events brings her to Harte to Harte Flowers – and she dragged Matt along for company. Fortunately for Matt, he behaves like a shy schoolboy – all thumbs and tongue tied, which Savannah finds sexy and she even agrees to a date. However, she makes it clear that she doesn’t have time or interest in traditional dating or long term relationships – she wants fun casual flings with no strings and no promises. For the first time in his life Matt is thinking more in terms of happily-ever-after and his own attitude is being thrown back in his face. He’ll go along with her no strings demands – for now – but Matt’s determined that Savannah is ‘the one’ and he’s up to the challenge of convincing her of the fact that he’s not going anywhere and can provide all the excitement her little heart desires.
THE HEAT IS ON by Elle Kennedy certainly lives up to its title. From the laughable opening bank robbery scene to Matt’s stumbling discomfort in trying to get Savannah to agree to see him this title captured my imagination and heart. Traditionally Navy SEALS are purported to be self-confident, overbearing, and definitely have no trouble finding female company but Matt doesn’t fit that mold and it makes him completely charming. Savannah is bold, daring, knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to voice her desires. She’s sexy and exciting yet displays a vulnerable side too which speaks to the reader. THE HEAT IS ON is a passionate read told with the right amount of humor, heart and angst so that readers can identify with the characters and when the book is finished, put it down with a deep sense of satisfaction.
THE HEAT IS ON is the sixth title in the OUT OF UNIFORM series; however, you do not need to read them in order in order to enjoy them, so dive right in and if you’d like to explore the rest of the series, here’s a list of them in order J
