Nina meets Lamont—a single, successful black lawyer who is not afraid to commit, as described by Nina’s friends. Lamont is eager to be Nina’s partner despite her hesitance to let him. He comes from a past precariously close to Nina’s, creating tension which threatens to expose Nina’s troubled upbringing.
Nina is drawn to Lamont and the promising future he is holding in front of her. But, when she least expects it, the past comes back to haunt her—threatening the new life she has fought so hard for.
Nina is a strong, independent black woman, not afraid to demand what she wants out of life despite all the lemons life seems to throw back at her. In the face of her troubles, she stands tall and refuses to be held back from her dreams. Even when heaven in the form of Lamont comes knocking on her door, she refuses to sacrifice successful independence to be taken care of by a man. I admire Nina’s resourcefulness and outright stubbornness to demand what she deserves out of life! She is an inspirational character I found myself rooting for.
