Enter Mark Waterson. Mark's cousin, Brooke, is getting married and it's become the subject of a reality television show. Brooke is on her way to his office to see the sketches Sal's supposed to have of her wedding shoes.
The fun begins. Sal is out sick, yet again, and Mark is anxious to have the designs of the wedding shoes available when Brooke comes to the office. Jenny tells him that it may take a while to get them together since Sal is forever putting his designs in different places. She suggests champagne and a pedicure to keep Brooke occupied until she can find the sketches. The sketches are in Jenny's desk drawer since she designed them.
Everyone is surprised at the ease Jenny works with Brooke and anything else that flares up. When the bride decides that she's not getting married, it's Jenny who comforts her. When a competitor's grandmother becomes ill, it's Jenny and her York Peppermint Patties who keep the woman company. At every turn she amazes Mark with her talents for easing the stress of the moment.
When the bride skips out and the powers-that-be discover that Jenny hasn't been completely honest in all things, the life she's become to love crumbles around her.
Suffice it to say, Mark has a lot of thinking to do about his life, both professionally and personally, when things begin to crumble. He sees Jenny in a totally different light and is knocked for a loop when his competitors clamor for her after Bellagio fires her.
Leanne Banks has written a marvelous story about an uptight executive who is taken down a few notches by a what-you-see-is-what-you-get young lady not of his own social class. Her characterizations are on the mark and if I tell you any more, I'll give the story away. The bride will keep you in stitches one minute and make you cry the next. The other minor characters are so endearing-well, most of them. There's one or two!
FEET FIRST is a keeper and it's also the first story in the Bellagio shoe series.
