Layne's FROM THIS DAY FORWARD felt like I was missing the background of the characters, which was difficult to understand since this is the prequel for a new series. Leah is blindsided by her wedding planner friend, Alexis, when Alexis asks her to be one of the photographers for the former First Daughter's wedding. Who else but Leah's former boyfriend, Jason, is the other photographer? They don't get off on the right foot, after not seeing each other for a year. But their previous burn-up-the-sheets chemistry keeps making its presence known. Watching them take one step forward and two or more back was nerve-racking, especially since simple communication would clear up their previous misunderstanding. Or was it a betrayal?
For one hundred pages, there was a lot of action going on and eventually lots of details too. We learn about Jason's life and how difficult it was for him both as a child and as an adult. We also learn he has trust issues as a result. He wants to be trusted by those close to him and for them not to run away, but to stay and fight and believe in him. Leah has her own issues with love. Will they be able to overcome their fears?
Closure and a happily-ever-after factor in at the end. I look forward to meeting up with Jason, Leah, and the wedding planners in the upcoming books in the WEDDING BELLES SERIES--TO HAVE AND TO HOLD, FOR BETTER OR WORSE and TO LOVE AND TO CHERISH.
Layne is a new author to me, and I hope to read the rest of this series as well as the other contemporary romances she's written. I hope that they will give me the background needed as the story unfolds.
