When Elise finds out she has been entered in the Proverbs 31 beauty pageant by Bree, she is determined to back out gracefully. But when she makes front-page headline news and has her name posted on the theatre marquee that is announcement central for Prichett, Elise knows she is doomed. With the support of Bernice, her best friend, and Annie, the new pastor's wife, Elise resigns herself to the spotlight and deals kindly with the publicity her nomination has brought tiny Prichett.
Problems soon arise when Sam takes offense at comments Elise makes about Bree wasting her life staying in Prichett and not going to college, which is what Bree is considering doing. Elise has always dreamed of leaving Prichett one day, and never really made much of an effort to become a part of the town. Will her attitude change once she begins preparing for the pageant and she discovers what being a Proverbs 31 Woman entails?
FRONT PORCH PRINCESS was my first read by author Kathryn Springer, but it certainly won't be my last! This novel was a fast-paced, humorous mom-lit that also presented its readers with a message--sometimes the things we dream of are hidden right in front of our noses. Elise has always dreamed of life in the big city, while overlooking the friends and wonderful life she already has in Prichett. Ms. Springer inspires every woman to be more like the Proverbs 31 woman of the Bible with this fun and homey novel. FRONT PORCH PRINCESS is the first of a new series about the residents of Prichett, with Bernice's story next, coming in 2007 from Steeple Hill.
