Her engagement broken, twenty-eight-year-old cruise critic Darcy Simons is left to pay the bills for her thwarted wedding when her fiancé is discovered with an eighteen-year-old, pregnant girl. To pay this debt, she reluctantly accepts an assignment writing about the maiden voyage of the Ocean Starr cruise liner, knowing she is expected to write a critical review. Although she has been known for being able to write an unfavorable review when it is called for, she has always followed the rules and been a good girl at heart. But what has it given her except a broken heart and a pile of bills. So during this voyage, which is being paid for by the company, she is determined to be a bad girl for once and have some fun while indulging in a wild sexual adventure. All she has to do is find the right guy, someone she can walk away from at the end of the ten-day voyage. However, from the moment she boards the ship, nothing goes as planned. After bumping into a man aboard the ship and knocking his briefcase overboard, Darcy is stunned to discover that he is the captain of the ship. Of course, the red stilettos she wore to appear seductive did not help.  Embarrassed, Darcy would like nothing better than to find a way home, but with little money and an assignment to complete, she knows there is nothing she can do but finish out the trip.

Captain Mitch James has a strict policy against getting involved with the female passengers on his ship. This has never been a problem before. But when he discovers there is a reviewer aboard the ship, he sets out to charm her, while keeping some facts about himself secret, like his connection to the owner of the cruise line. Mitch is surprised to discover that the reviewer is the same clumsy woman who bumped into him and caused him to drop his papers overboard. Once he sees the red stilettos she insists on wearing, he understands why she tripped. But as he spends time with her, he is not prepared for how she makes him feel, nor the jealousy he experiences when her ex shows up on the ship.

As the days aboard ship pass by, Darcy is unable to find anything wrong with the ship and she is slowly losing her heart to the handsome captain. But when her boss demands that she either give the ship a bad review or suffer dire consequences, she has to make a decision. Will she lie to please her boss, or will she choose what she feels in her heart? Will the appearance onboard of the man who jilted her affect her decision?

New York Times bestselling author Denise Swanson, known for her popular cozy mystery series, has ventured into the contemporary romance genre with her latest novel, GOOD GIRL OVERBOARD, the first in her CHANGE OF HEART series. This series centers on a group of small town friends who need a new start and a fresh outlook to find the one meant for them. GOOD GIRL OVERBOARD is a wonderful start to a promising series. I loved it and could not help rooting for Darcy to find love with the handsome captain. Mitch is very swoon-worthy as he tries so hard to spend time with Darcy, but is constantly interrupted by the demands of his position. To make things even more exasperating for him is the appearance of her ex-fiancé, who tries to win her back.

Mishaps, interesting characters, witty banter, ulterior motives, passion, secrets, a shipboard romance and love intertwine to provide readers with an entrancing story that will leave them feeling good. I have been a fan of Ms. Swanson's SCUMBLE RIVER mystery series for some time and enjoy her work. So I was thrilled to get the chance to read her newest effort, which exceeded my already high expectations. I cannot wait to see what else Ms. Swanson has in store for her readers with the next CHANGE OF HEART novel. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of GOOD GIRL OVERBOARD. I am sure you will enjoy it just as much as I did!
