Sunny McCafferty is traveling to Chicago for the anti-war protests. She’d lost someone near and dear to her in the war and hates what it’s doing to the young men who serve in the military. Sunny’s immediately attracted to Joe but worries that he won’t want anything to do with her when he learns that she’s a peacenik.
While boarding the train Joe and Sunny strike up a conversation. Joe is thrilled that Sunny doesn’t show any signs of disgust or pity for him. That’s all he’s seen in the faces of people since his return to the States so it’s nice to talk to someone who treats him as a normal man. He works up the nerve to ask her to dine with him and is thrilled when she says yes - it’s been over a year since he’s had dinner with a beautiful girl. They agree to meet in two hours and part ways. Sunny takes her seat in coach and Joe continues looking for his roomette. They’re both soon lost in thought about their lives before the war and their hopes for the near future.
During the meal, Sunny reveals the reason why she’s going to Chicago. Joe’s disappointed but they agree to give peace a chance - at least between them while they’re on the train. Can two people with such opposing views come together and form a lasting relationship or will the real world intrude once they arrive in Chicago?
Lyndy Lamont captures the emotional upheaval of those on opposing sides of the war in Vietnam with her story GOOD VIBRATIONS. Joe and Sunny are so different that I thought that there’s no way they’d make a good couple but as I read I realized that I couldn’t be more wrong. Their agreement to give peace a chance sets a wonderful tone for the whole train ride with hot love scenes that practically jump off the pages. It’s once they arrive in Chicago that their differences become and issue and they have to decide what’s truly important to them. Will they be able to find a way to make the peace between them last while the rest of the country is so at odds?
GOOD VIBRATIONS is one of the five stories that make up the TRACK 13 Amberpax collection. Each story centers around a train trip and the unexpected surprises that travelers experience which just may change their lives.
