Sydney Marie St. John is a financial wizard in her field.  When she finds herself in hot water with the company she works for, she decides it is time to go back to her roots in Sweetheart, Indiana to figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life.  While driving back to her hometown, she remembers a night long ago when she made a complete fool of herself with Eric, a teenage boy she had a crush on.  She was a tall, lanky geek in high school, that none of the other kids would hang out with.  He is the last person she is hoping to see while she is home, but as fate would have it, he is the first person she encounters.  As they are talking she notices he is still drop dead gorgeous, but has also matured in a lot of ways.  She realizes the feelings she once had are still there, but the sparks seem to be much stronger. Will Sydney leave the past behind and listen to her heart?

Eric Law is a handsome, wealthy and fast-talking attorney from a big city.  He has returned home for a much needed vacation and to be the best man at his brother's wedding.  He also needs to get away from a failed marriage.  Failure is one thing Eric does not know how to handle. He agrees to take care of his brother's law practice while he is on his honeymoon.  While Eric is coming back from the house, his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere.  Just when he is ready to give up, a car comes rolling down the dirt road and stops to help him.  When the lady steps out of the car, her beauty takes him aback.  His jaw hits the floor when she tells him who she is.  When he gives her a hug, he is startled by his reaction to her.

Eric is shocked to find that he enjoys practicing law in a small town and that he is falling in love with Sydney.  Will Eric let the failure of his marriage ruin his chance to be with a woman who has captured his heart?  Or will he run back to the city where he can immerse himself in his work?

GOODNIGHT, SWEETHEART is a funny, sexy, charming and heart-warming romance.  Suzanne Simmons knows how to hook her readers from the first page to the last page.  I often laughed aloud while reading this enchanting love story and felt like I was living my high school years again.  I could relate to this book, not only for the high school memories, but also living in a small town where everyone knows your business.  I loved Sydney for overcoming her awkwardness and becoming a very strong, self-assured woman.  The secondary story and characters in this charming book are absolutely wonderful.  I cried at how Sydney's aunt had been denied the only love she ever knew.  GOODNIGHT, SWEETHEART has captured a prominent location on my bookshelf.
