Christianna is the daughter of Prince Hans Josef – the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein.   Her brother, Frederic, is a frivolous playboy who does everything he can to avoid his duties.   She is more like her father and feels she must shoulder Fredric’s responsibilities as well as her own.   However, at home, she feels like a prisoner.   She wants to be an ordinary person with none of the burdens that automatically come with her royal position.   However, her father, determined to keep her safe, wants her to stay home and work alongside him.

Despairing of her life as a royal, she longs to do something for others.   Finally, she strikes a bargain with her father; she will work, incognito, with the Red Cross in Africa for a period of six months to one year and in return she will spend the rest of her life fulfilling her duties with no complaints.

Parker Williams is doing research for Harvard.   Part of it involves following Doctors Without Borders to Africa to study Aids.  While there he meets Cricky, a volunteer with the Red Cross.   He is strongly attracted to her and the feelings are mutual, but she seems to be holding something back.

Christianna is ecstatic to be in Africa .   This is a whole new adventure for her.   She has even found someone she could love, but she knows her father will not approve of him.   She must marry royalty.   Will she be able to return home when her time is up?   Will her time with the Red Cross prepare her for what she must face when and if she does go home?   How will Parker feel when he finds out she has lied to him and is in reality the Princess of Liechtenstein?

I enjoyed reading H. R. H..   Poignant and passionate describes this suspense-filled love story.   The characters and their emotions are so well developed the reader will find themselves not only rooting for them, but also feeling their despair and their joy.   Anticipation will keep the reader turning the pages until the book is finished.   I highly recommend H. R. H..
