Nora Glick Landwehr had been cast out by her own father when she became pregnant at the age of sixteen. Nora knew she couldn’t raise her daughter on her own so she left her in a basket on her brother’s porch. Nora has been living the Englisch life for all her adult life and when her Englisch husband divorced her, she made sure she received a huge settlement so she could move back home. She wants to try to connect to her family again and get to know her teenage daughter. Nora buys a farm with a huge barn on it that she wants to make into a store for the local artisans. Nora knows she can’t go back to the Amish ways so she decides to become a Mennonite. Then she can still do what she most wants to do, bond with her daughter.

Nora tries to seek forgiveness from her father but he refuses to give it. Without his forgiveness Nora will be unable to reunite with her mother or get to know her daughter. Nora seeks council from one of the Amish bishops. After the bishop, who is over her family’s sector, tells Nora’s dad he needs to forgive his daughter or be shunned himself, Nora’s mom and daughter come to stay with her. Getting to know her daughter is one of Nora’s greatest joys.

With all of the local women coming to help Nora get her barn and store set up for business, Nora realizes that maybe coming home was the best thing she has done in her adult life.

The neighbor, Luke Hooley, wants to get better acquainted with Nora but she is not ready for any male company as yet. They don’t agree on anything and Luke is prone to believe the worst about her. In the end, will Luke be there for Nora when she fights her battles with the ex-bishop who is stalking her?

This story is one of heartaches, love, and above all, trying to fix old wrongs and seek family forgiveness. I enjoyed this novel as well as I have the others in this series. I learn more about the Amish life with each book. Charlotte Hubbard has a way of drawing you into the fold and makes you feel a part of the story. I gave this book 5 Blue Ribbons on Romance Junkie’s website because it’s such a great story of the struggles of life and family. I look forward to reading more of this series.
