Stephanie Walker was a career woman until she married, moved away, and then had two children. Now she is in a life she loves, but wonders if there is more out there. Her husband is never home, her kids are growing up and starting school and she is unsure if she doesn’t want something more. What mom has not felt this way in her life? Stephanie eventually does some contract work and has some problems to overcome with a former interest of hers. She is also very witty and funny and her true friendship with Amber across the miles is inspirational to read. How she also falls in really quickly with Julie is wonderful also.
Julie Desmond is recently divorced and her only son is away at college. Eager to find out what else is out there in the world, she applies for a job as Amber’s assistant and gets the job. She and Amber immediately get along and become close friends. As Amber is trying to figure out what is going on in her own life, she is also helping Julie with her life and advising her about pursuing an old love interest of her own. Julie’s mothering and wonderfully giving personality make her a superb character and I think everyone knows someone who is like Julie; that sweet innocent woman that seems to know so little of the world, but so much about caring and love.
This book is amazing. I honestly could not put it down. The format of emails and instant messaging is great. It is like having a lot of little short chapters, yet the story is not choppy at all. In this day and time, we all communicate with email more and more so this format felt like real life to me. The characters are well-developed and very real. I saw some of myself in each of the women and felt like they were my friends and I was experiencing all of their ups and downs right there with each of them. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Rush right out and get this book – if you like reading about love, good friends and life’s ups and downs, you will love this book.
