FBI Profiler Caitlin Falconetti is all too aware of the pain of loss. Her job as a profiler has exposed her to the most heinous of crimes. She has done her best to bring those she's sought to justice and in doing so has helped many families to heal. But she has a secret all her own. One that is so deep and painful it cost her the man she loved.

After surviving a near fatal attack she walked away from Tick and immersed herself in her work. Now, as she is sent to the small southern town where Tick lives, she is forced to work side by side with him. Can she manage to keep her secrets and walk away unscathed or will she find herself bearing it all to the man she still loves?

Lamar "Tick" Calvert has never forgotten the one that got away. Caitlin was the one for him, he's always known it and losing her is a pain he's sure he'll never get over. As a series of unsolved murders continue to baffle him and the local police it's clear they need outside help.

Tick is determined to solve this case and if working with Caitlin will bring this killer to justice than that's what he intends to do. But more than that he needs to know the truth, the real reason why Caitlin walked away. He'll use everything at his disposal, including her lingering attraction and passion for him. Racing against time, and a mad man who has set his sights on Caitlin, Tick is playing to win and he'll do what he must to hold on to the woman he loves.

HOLD ON TO ME is a welcome addition to Ms. Winfree's HEARTS OF THE SOUTH series. It is as engaging and gritty as its predecessors and has a depth that is undeniable. Ms. Winfree is clearly unafraid to tackle any subject matter and does it with a respect and knowledge that never belittles or glamorizes the crimes she portrays. Her plot line is strong and her ability to weave a love story seamlessly with a murder mystery is to be applauded.

HOLD ON TO ME contains two very strong and extremely likable characters. Both have obvious flaws and vulnerabilities that are essential to the reader's ability to connect with them. Their love is clearly deep and consuming yet they let circumstance and tragedy separate them. Tick's ability to forgive and his innate sexiness are hard to resist and when Caitlin finally surrenders the sex is explosive and caring in one brilliantly written love story.

Ms. Winfree's series gets better and better with each novel and she is quickly emerging as a romantic suspense author that should not be passed by. HOLD ON TO ME is a remarkable tale, and one I can't recommend enough.
