Libby Leeds is a magazine columnist who has made a name for herself by sharing heartwarming stories of her life on Sanctuary Island. The only problem is she hasn't been on the island since she was a child. When orphaned by her parents passing, she had to leave the island to go live with her Uncle Ray in New York. She bases her stories on small memories she has and from dreams of having a perfect family life on the island.

Army Ranger Owen Shepard has become a social media hero. When the editor of Libby's magazine finds out Owen is going to Sanctuary Island to meet a daughter he has never met and to give her a great Christmas, he decides Libby needs to host a Christmas dinner for Owen and Caitlin. Libby realizes she is going to have to go home and get to know her grandfather.

On the ferry ride over to the island, Libby and Owen meet and strike up a friendship of sorts. Owen tells Libby about his daughter, Caitlin, who is living with his sister, Andie, on the island and how Owen has never met Caitlin. Libby explains that she is the one who will be hosting the dinner for his family at her grandfather's house. Unbeknownst to Libby, her grandfather has sent her cousin, Nash, to meet the ferry, posing as her husband. Owen can see that there is something not quite right about Nash but can't quite put his finger on it. Owen's older sister, Andie, is the island sheriff and meets the ferry to take Owen to meet Caitlin. Owen's meeting with Caitlin doesn't quite go well and neither does Libby's meeting with her grandfather. Libby already told her grandfather her predicament before she arrived. Being a very controlling and important man on the island, he has set up all the people and places needed to pull off the fake family setting. It will be a comedy of errors as all the lies are put into play.

Libby is spending a lot of time with Owen and Caitlin to give her the full Christmas treatment, and she realizes this is the family she has always dreamt about. As Christmas Day gets closer, it will interesting to see how it all works out.

This book is one of heartbreaks, family secrets and the miracles of the Christmas season. I give this novel 4 Blue Ribbons on Romance Junkies' website because learning the story of the young orphan who has always dreamt of having a loving family, while getting the chance to go back to where it all began to try to make a real life for herself, is a Christmas miracle I wouldn't want to have missed. Christmas means a lot of things to different people but I think we all want a loving family to share it with. Sometimes memories are all we have left and reading about other families and their happy endings make the season brighter.
